Beyries Releases Album Inspired by Donald Trump’s Election Shock

Amélie Beyries has released her debut album, inspired significantly by the aftermath of Donald Trump’s election shock in November 2024. This collection of acoustic covers showcases her reaction to the political climate and draws on memories from her adolescence.

Beyries’ Musical Journey

The election brought about a sense of stress and discomfort for many, prompting Beyries to reflect on her younger years, a time defined by carefree moments such as cycling with friends and enjoying popular music. The album is a nostalgic nod to those formative experiences.

Creation of the Album

  • The project began as a unique Advent calendar on Beyries’ Instagram.
  • From December 1 to 24, 2024, she shared daily acoustic covers of well-known songs.
  • This initiative naturally evolved into her album titled Reprises.

The album features nine acoustic reimaginings of tracks from a variety of artists, including:

  • Richard Desjardins
  • Def Leppard
  • Bob Dylan
  • Fleetwood Mac
  • Mylène Farmer
  • R.E.M.
  • ABBA
  • Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers
  • Cat Stevens

Beyries emphasizes that her selections focused on maintaining an intimate sound that highlighted her voice, whether accompanied by guitar or piano.

Surprising Choices

Some tracks might seem unusual choices for acoustic renditions. Beyries admitted her reservations about covering Def Leppard’s “Love Bites” due to its risqué lyrics. However, upon experimenting with the song, she found a groove that made the cover work.

Another surprising inclusion is “Désenchantée” by Mylène Farmer. Stripped down, the song reveals profound lyrics that Beyries discovered for the first time during this project.

Future Aspirations

Beyries has confirmed that Reprises will not be her last album of covers. She plans to continue her musical exploration, focusing on creativity and learning through projects like her Advent calendar. Fans can expect another release in the works, with a new original album anticipated in fall 2026.

Reprises will be available from Friday, October 10, 2024, offering listeners a blend of nostalgia and fresh artistic expression from the talented singer-songwriter.
