Highway 1 Temporarily Closed After Head-On Collision East of Salmon Arm

On June 13, 2026, a significant head-on collision occurred on Highway 1, just east of Kangaroo Road near Salmon Arm, British Columbia. The Salmon Arm RCMP responded to the incident at 7:08 AM, which involved a rental Toyota Corolla and a westbound semi-truck with a trailer.

Collision Details

The crash left three individuals trapped in the Corolla, which was found in the eastbound ditch. One occupant managed to exit the vehicle independently. Emergency response teams used the jaws of life to extricate the remaining three occupants from the wreckage.

Injuries and Transportation

  • All four occupants of the Corolla were taken to the hospital.
  • They are believed to be in stable but critical condition.

Investigation Findings

Preliminary investigations suggest that the Corolla was attempting to overtake an eastbound semi when it crossed the center line, leading to the head-on collision with the westbound semi-truck. Following the impact, the Corolla spun off the roadway and came to rest in the ditch, with significant damage including engine ejection.

Driver Condition and Road Closure

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured and is cooperating with law enforcement. A collision analyst is currently investigating the scene. As a result of the accident, Highway 1 remains closed between Salmon Arm and Sicamous and is expected to reopen by 5 PM on June 13, 2026.
