Erquy Youths Experience Dream Moment at Roland-Garros

On June 1, during the Roland-Garros tournament’s round of 16, two young tennis players from Erquy had a remarkable experience. Maïwenn Le Mercier and Gabriel Connan, members of the local tennis club, entered the prestigious Suzanne-Lenglen court as ball kids for professional players. Their scheduled entry at 2 PM was delayed due to extended matches, resulting in a long wait until 7 PM that day.
Unforgettable Experience at Roland-Garros
Maïwenn had the opportunity to assist Italian player Matteo Arnaldi, while Gabriel supported American Frances Tiafoe. This day was filled with excitement and emotions, marking a memorable occasion in their young tennis careers. Maïwenn shared her feelings about the experience, stating, “It’s an incredible chance. We are very happy to have experienced this moment. The size of the courts impressed us, and we were eager to feel the competitive atmosphere.”
Parental Perspective
The experience was equally impactful for their parents. They accompanied Maïwenn and Gabriel, noting the intensity of the day. Gabriel’s father commented, “The match ended at 1 AM. It was a long day, but absolutely exceptional.”
Souvenirs and Lasting Memories
After returning to Brittany, the young players brought back official outfits and commemorative items provided to the ball kids. More importantly, they returned with cherished memories and a newfound admiration for the world’s top players. Both Maïwenn and Gabriel are excited to continue their tennis journey, inspired by their remarkable day at Roland-Garros.
