Monaco GP Halted After F1 Cars Crash on Damaged Track Surface

The Monaco Grand Prix faced a significant disruption as the race was halted with just ten laps remaining. This occurred after two separate incidents at the final corner involving competitors.
Crashes at the Monaco Grand Prix
The first incident involved Lance Stroll, who crashed his Aston Martin while running in 16th place. This led to an initial deployment of the safety car. However, upon resuming the race, Charles Leclerc of Ferrari collided with the wall at the same corner while positioned third.
Track Concerns and Race Suspension
Following the two crashes, the FIA decided to suspend the race to inspect the track surface at Turn 19, where the accidents occurred. Officials have raised concerns about a suspected track break-up in that area. Stroll and Leclerc both attributed their crashes to issues with their cars rather than the track condition.
Championship Standings
Kimi Antonelli, leading the championship, has been in dominant form throughout the race, representing Mercedes. His front-row partner, Max Verstappen from Red Bull, faced difficulties right from the start and was unable to compete effectively.
Race Re-Start Details
Temporary repairs have been made at the last corner, allowing for a re-start scheduled for 5:12 PM local time, approximately thirty minutes after the race was suspended. The updated standings for the restart include:
- Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes)
- Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari)
- Isack Hadjar (Red Bull)
- George Russell (Mercedes) – fourth place, subject to a drivethrough penalty
Additionally, Hamilton and Hadjar are under investigation for potential safety car procedure violations during the race.
