Road Closures, Heat Alerts as Winnipeg Pride Parade Kicks Off

The annual Pride parade in Winnipeg is set to brighten downtown with a vibrant celebration of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. However, attendees should prepare for road closures and significant heat alerts on Sunday.

Road Closures During Pride Parade

Several roads will experience closures along the parade route:

  • Memorial Boulevard in both directions from Broadway to York Avenue
  • Northbound Memorial Boulevard from York Avenue to Portage Avenue
  • Eastbound Portage Avenue from Memorial Boulevard to Main Street
  • Southbound Main Street from Portage Avenue to William Stephenson Way
  • Eastbound William Stephenson Way from Main Street to Israel Asper Way

Heat Alerts for Participants

Attendees should be aware of the heat alert in effect. Environment Canada has issued a yellow-level heat warning, predicting temperatures to reach 34°C. The day is expected to be hot, sunny, and windy, necessitating caution.

Preparation for Attendees

Organizers of the Pride event recommend that everyone stay hydrated. Here are some tips for attendees:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Bring reusable water bottles, available for refill at hydration stations located at The Forks.

Additionally, high winds may impact the setup of patio umbrellas and tents during the festivities. This could affect shade availability for participants.

Event Schedule

Sunday’s Pride celebrations begin with a rally at the Manitoba legislature building at 10 a.m. The parade will start marching through downtown Winnipeg at 11 a.m. The festival events kick off at 12 p.m. at The Forks, featuring a variety of entertainment including drag, music, and theater performances throughout the evening.
