BCP Beaches Stay Inviting Thanks to Staff and Volunteers Over Holiday Weekend

During the recent spring bank holiday weekend, BCP Beaches in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors. A coordinated effort from various teams ensured a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Collaborative Efforts for a Safe Holiday

The BCP Council reported extensive collaboration among council staff, seafront teams, the RNLI, and local emergency services like Dorset Police. Together, they worked tirelessly to provide a memorable experience for beachgoers.

Successful Child Reunions

Throughout the holiday weekend, effective teamwork led to the safe reunion of 64 lost children and vulnerable adults with their families. RNLI lifeguards and seafront staff played critical roles in these swift responses.

Beach Maintenance and Cleanliness

  • The seafront team began rubbish collection at 4 AM daily during the summer.
  • On busy weekends, waste management is prioritized with tractors and surf rakes.
  • Litter-pickers continue to clear the beaches until they are tidy again.

Over the season, the cleansing team is expected to remove thousands of tons of waste from the coastlines of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole.

Encouraging Responsible Behavior

BCP Council encourages visitors to take responsibility for their rubbish and, when possible, to take it home. This initiative aims to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the coast.

Commitment to Safety and Enjoyment

The pristine coastline stretches from Hamworthy to Highcliffe, featuring six Blue Flag beaches anticipated for the 2026 season. Council teams and partners remain committed to keeping the area safe and enjoyable.

Community Leaders’ Recognition

Cllr Richard Herrett, BCP Council’s portfolio holder for leisure and destination operations, expressed pride in the staff’s commitment. He noted record-breaking temperatures and extended gratitude to all volunteers who worked diligently under demanding conditions to ensure safety for both residents and visitors.

With more warm weather on the horizon, BCP Beaches look forward to another busy season, ready to welcome visitors with open arms.
