Upcoming June Tube and London Bus Strikes: All Walkout Dates

London is poised for significant transportation disruptions in June due to upcoming strikes involving both Tube and bus services. The RMT union previously organized walkouts in April, focused on negotiations with Transport for London (TfL) regarding a proposed voluntary four-day week for drivers.

Scheduled Strike Dates for Tube Services

The planned strikes are set for:

  • Tuesday, June 2: Strike from midnight to 11:59 PM
  • Thursday, June 4: Strike from midnight to 11:59 PM

Travelers should expect extensive disruptions across the Tube network on both strike days, with some service delays anticipated on the mornings of:

  • Wednesday, June 3: Morning disruptions as services resume
  • Friday, June 5: Ongoing service adjustments

Services Impacted by the Strikes

The anticipated strikes are likely to affect major Tube lines significantly, resulting in reduced services throughout the day. Buses and National Rail services may provide alternative routes. E-bike hire rates spiked during the last strikes, indicating increased demand for alternative transport methods. The Elizabeth line, Overground, and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) are expected to maintain operations, however, these services may experience higher ridership than usual.

Reasons Behind the Strikes

The RMT union’s decision to strike stems from concerns regarding the introduction of a new four-day workweek. The union argues that such a change could negatively impact shift patterns, working times, and overall safety due to fatigue. TfL has clarified that participation in the four-day week is voluntary and aims to enhance work-life balance for drivers. The Aslef union has accepted the proposed changes, highlighting benefits like reduced working hours and additional days off.

Additional Strikes in June

In addition to the Tube strikes, fresh strike action has been announced by the Unite union. The dispute centers on driver scheduling and fatigue management. Over 300 drivers from the East London Bus & Coach Company will be striking on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, May 27 to Friday, May 29
  • Thursday, June 11 to Sunday, June 14

These strikes are expected to impact several bus routes operating from the Bow bus garage, including:

  • 8
  • N8
  • 25
  • N25
  • 45
  • 205
  • N205
  • 425

As the situation progresses, commuters in London should stay informed about potential disruptions and plan their travel accordingly to mitigate the impact of these strikes.
