Michelle Wie West Unveils Her First Course Design at Candyroot Lodge

Michelle Wie West has embarked on an exciting venture, unveiling her first course design at Candyroot Lodge. This project pays homage to her childhood memories, where she spent countless hours playing golf at the Hawaii Kai Executive par-3 course in Hawaii.

Introducing Sweet Tooth: A New Golf Experience

Wie’s design, named Sweet Tooth, is a tribute to the joy of golfing snacks and fond memories. “I’m personally a big sweet tooth,” she remarked. “Some of the best experiences on the golf course are the snacks.” This short course is created with the goal of providing a fun and inviting atmosphere for all golfers.

Course Features and Layout

Sweet Tooth is set on 25 acres of the expansive 1,210-acre property in Jefferson, South Carolina. The course will offer:

  • A traditional par-3 layout
  • Alternative routes for par 4 and par 5 play
  • Night lighting for extended playtime

It aims to cater to golfers of all skill levels, making it an inclusive environment for families and beginners. The proximity of Candyroot Lodge to Charlotte and Columbia, South Carolina, adds to its appeal.

Collaboration with Candyroot Lodge

Founded by Aaron and Ethan Oberman, Candyroot Lodge emphasizes innovation and accessibility in golf design. The lodge’s first course, designed by Mike Koprowski, is set to preview in November 2026, with a grand opening planned for Spring 2027.

  • Koprowski gained recognition through his collaboration with Kyle Franz.
  • Candyroot Lodge targets a more female-friendly atmosphere in the golfing community.

As a five-time LPGA Tour winner and the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open champion, Wie brings a wealth of experience to her design. She expressed her excitement for creating an enjoyable environment for new golfers, as well as seasoned players.

Creating an Inclusive Golf Culture

Wie’s vision focuses on breaking down barriers within the sport. She believes that intimidation in golf is a significant issue, particularly for beginners. “I want to make it fun for scratch golfers as well,” she noted.

With Sweet Tooth, Wie is not just sharing her love for golf; she is also passing on her passion to the next generation. Her commitment to creating positive experiences for golfers will undoubtedly contribute to a more inclusive culture at Candyroot Lodge.
