Sam Ryder’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Heads to Theatre Royal Drury Lane

Sam Ryder will star in the classic musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. This production will run from October 16, 2026, to January 9, 2027. Following a highly successful summer season at The London Palladium, the show has extended its performances to accommodate high demand.

Performance Details

Ryder will continue his role as Jesus, joined by a talented cast that includes:

  • Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene
  • David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate
  • Bob Harms as Caiaphas
  • Matty J as Annas
  • Phil King as Peter

Additional company members include Koko Alexandra, Jasmine Jules Andrews, and many others. Casting for the roles of Judas Iscariot, Simon, and King Herod will be announced later.

Producer’s Remarks

Producer Michael Harrison expressed his excitement about the show’s ongoing success. He stated that the ticket demand has broken all-time box office records at The London Palladium. This prompted the decision to extend the run at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, allowing more audiences to experience this legendary musical.

Creative Team

The production, directed by Tim Sheader, features choreography by Olivier Award winner Drew McOnie and set design by Tony and Olivier Award winner Tom Scutt. This creative team previously collaborated on the 2016 Regent’s Park Open Air production.

The musical showcases the last days of Jesus Christ’s life, told from Judas’ perspective. It features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice.

Live Performance and Streaming

Sam Ryder will perform the song “Gethsemane” live on “Britain’s Got Talent” on May 16, 2023, at 6 PM. The performance will be broadcast on ITV1, and the recording will be available on streaming platforms the same evening.
