Selgascano’s Bright ‘Chimneys’ Transform Albania’s Coastal Skyline

Selgascano has recently unveiled their latest architectural masterpiece, Sky-K, comprising two vibrant residential towers in Durrës, Albania. These slender structures, characterized by their bright yellow and red colors, rise prominently against the Adriatic coast, reshaping the coastal skyline.

Transforming Durrës’ Coastal Landscape

Located just behind Rruga Taulantia, the recently developed linear park along the beach, Sky-K stands as a striking feature within a densely populated coastal area. The towers, designed with a unique double presence, not only dominate the skyline but also maintain a compact footprint. Their height and vivid colors make them a significant part of the city’s scene, while their positioning among existing structures allows light and views to permeate the surroundings.

Innovative Design with Community Focus

The design of Sky-K emphasizes a small footprint complemented by a gardened ground level. Collaborating with FRPO Rodríguez & Oriol, Selgascano has transformed a compact residential block into a green sanctuary. Six concrete columns elevate the main structure, creating an open Mediterranean garden at the ground level. This botanical space enhances community engagement, providing essential greenery for local residents.

Architectural Features: Chimney-Like Towers

The towers of Sky-K, described as chimney-like due to their slender design, feature a corrugated concrete façade that adds texture and visual interest. The undulating surfaces are adorned with irregularly sized terrace openings, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. These balconies provide panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea and the port of Durrës, allowing residents to connect with the landscape.

Enhancing Living Spaces

Each apartment benefits from cross-ventilation and multiple outdoor spaces, thanks to the thoughtfully designed terraces. The rounded openings not only enhance aesthetic appeal but also create shaded environments for residents. The continuous concrete skin, punctuated by these outdoor rooms, yields a bold yet cohesive look.

A Bright Marker on the Adriatic Coast

Sky-K encapsulates Selgascano’s commitment to bold colors, with the towers providing a stark contrast to the muted tones of surrounding buildings. Their shape pays homage to Durrës’ maritime heritage while introducing modernity to the urban fabric. From various vantage points, these landmarks emerge prominently, embodying both innovation and a connection to the city’s history.

In essence, Sky-K not only enriches the architectural landscape of Durrës but also enhances the residential experience, marrying modern design with community-oriented spaces.
