Major Roadworks Begin in Lagmore, Potential Traffic Disruption Expected

Major road improvement works are set to commence in Lagmore next week, with residents advised to expect potential disruption. The project will begin on Lagmore View Road on Monday, May 18. To facilitate the first phase of these significant enhancements, there will be a full road closure from Mount Eagles to Lagmore View Lane.
Road Closure Details
The full closure will take place from 9:30 AM to 5 PM for just one day. After this initial closure, smaller sections of the road will be closed off as construction progresses. Traffic management personnel will be present on-site to assist with local access.
Reasons for the Roadworks
Councillor Joe Duffy of Sinn Féin stated that the need for these improvements was first raised by residents back in 2017-18. Concerns included safety issues, traffic congestion, reduced visibility, and challenges for pedestrians and emergency vehicles navigating the poorly designed layout of Lagmore View Road.
Key Safety Concerns
- Poor sightlines and road alignment
- Vehicles mounting kerbs due to lack of designated spaces
- Congestion around raised traffic-calming features
Project Specifications
The road improvement scheme is being executed by Antrim Construction and is expected to exceed £200,000. The project aims to enhance driver visibility, improve traffic flow, and ensure pedestrian safety while maintaining speed reduction measures.
Components of the Road Improvement Works
- Realignment and straightening of sections of Lagmore View Road
- Removal and redesign of existing raised traffic-calming tables
- Installation of formalized parking bays along the roadway
- Provision of new speed cushions and revised traffic-calming measures
- Installation of bollards and upgraded kerbing
- New road markings and related safety infrastructure
- Landscaping and environmental improvements
- Improved access arrangements for surrounding residential developments
While the roadworks may cause temporary disruptions, Councillor Duffy emphasized that this long-term investment will enhance the safety and infrastructure in the community. He has also communicated with Belfast City Council to minimize disturbances to bin collections during the work period.
Residents are encouraged to reach out with any questions or concerns while the road improvement project is underway. Their patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated during this essential work.
