F1 Sees Upgrades Despite Advancing Canadian Grand Prix

The Canadian Grand Prix is set to welcome thousands of motorsport fans to Notre-Dame Island this weekend. Despite a shortened setup season and the last-minute addition of Formula 2 to the schedule, the event organization is fully prepared. Sandrine Garneau, Chief Operating Officer for the Canadian Grand Prix, highlighted that enhancing customer experience is a priority this year.

Enhancements and New Features

This year, major improvements have been made to the paddock, transforming team headquarters significantly. The new elite lounge at the paddock entrance now features a two-story structure with glass walls, climate control, and heating. Additionally, an upgraded F1 fan zone has been established in the park area at the island’s center.

New Sponsorships

  • Disney
  • Kit Kat
  • American Express

The promoters have also invested in the Jean-Doré Beach area, near the Senna S-curves. An impressive 80,000-square-foot platform has been constructed over the water, designed to host the “CGV Experience” featuring concerts across the three event nights.

Ticket Availability and Sales

Garneau mentioned that not all tickets have been sold for the race weekend. While grandstand tickets are sold out, there remains free entry space and limited terrace tickets. Tickets for the “CGV Experience,” which includes access to F1 activities and night concerts, are still available.

Logistical Challenges and Innovations

This year’s event has been pushed forward by three weeks. Garneau commented on the logistical hurdles this shift presented. However, collaboration with Jean-Drapeau Park allowed setup to begin as early as fall. She noted encountering challenges, such as trees still lacking leaves at the track due to the late season.

Additions of Formula 2

Adding to the excitement is the inaugural appearance of Formula 2 in North America, prompted by geopolitical changes leading to the cancellation of two other Grands Prix. Bell GPCanada had previously explored hosting F2 but was initially declined due to scheduling conflicts. With these cancellations, the F2 series redirected its attention to Canada.

Garneau enthusiastically welcomed Formula 2, recognizing it as a beneficial addition to the race weekend, despite the operational challenges it brings. The F2 paddocks will be temporarily situated at the end of the hairpin turn, in a lot at the Olympic basin’s edge.

As the event kicks off, adjustments will be necessary to effectively integrate the F2 operations. Garneau remains optimistic about the collaboration and believes the overall event experience will improve as a result.
