NYC-Bound Passenger Challenges Judge After Alleged TSA Scuffle

A passenger traveling to New York created a disturbance at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, leading to his arrest. Oreoluwa Oloruntoba, age 30, faces multiple charges after allegedly attempting to breach security and fighting with TSA agents.
Incident Overview
On Monday, Oloruntoba reportedly ran through a TSA checkpoint without going through security procedures. Witnesses stated he tried to board his flight unscanned, a violation of airport regulations.
Charges Filed
Oloruntoba has been charged with:
- Simple battery
- Obstructing an officer
- Interfering with security measures
During his court appearance on Wednesday, Oloruntoba asked Judge Latrevia Kates-Johnson if he could still make his flight, despite being in custody. His response came after the judge outlined the serious nature of his charges.
Details from the Court Appearance
Judge Kates-Johnson reminded Oloruntoba of the gravity of the situation. “You breached security, and you fought with the officers when they attempted to arrest you,” she stated. Despite his insistence that he did not shove any officers, the judge instructed him to save any explanations for trial.
Oloruntoba remains in custody with a bond set at $9,000, which he has yet to pay. He was also curious about rescheduling his flight and was told he could do so, provided he passes through security properly.
Public Reactions
The incident shocked fellow travelers at the airport. Many expressed disbelief at Oloruntoba’s actions. Amber Mixon said, “That’s crazy. That’s ridiculous. Sometimes you just got to miss the flight.” Joe Stampone added, “If I’m headed to my mom’s funeral, I might do that. Short of that, not happening.”
Recurring Security Issues
This is not the first time security procedures at Hartsfield-Jackson have been challenged. In a similar case, Fabian Leon, 40, was charged with simple battery after rushing a TSA checkpoint on October 30, 2025. His court appearance is scheduled for June 3.
The increasing number of security breaches raises concerns about airport safety protocols and passenger compliance.
