Canadian Curling Legend Brad Gushue Appointed U.S. High-Performance Director

Canadian curling legend Brad Gushue has accepted a pivotal role as the high-performance director of USA Curling. His appointment was confirmed by the organization on Wednesday.

Brad Gushue’s New Role

Gushue, a renowned figure in curling, emphasized his pride in being Canadian. However, he expressed that such an opportunity was not available in Canada. His comfortable relationship with USA Curling influenced his decision significantly. At 45 years old, Gushue recently retired in March after a remarkable 30-year career in the sport.

Achievements and Experience

Throughout his distinguished career, Gushue has made a significant mark on the sport, which includes:

  • Six Brier championships
  • 23 Brier appearances
  • World championship title in 2017
  • 15 Grand Slam titles
  • Two Olympic appearances: gold in 2006 and bronze in 2022

Gushue highlighted that he was not ready to leave the curling world behind. His new position allows him to remain involved in the sport he has dedicated his life to.

USA Curling’s Vision

The high-performance program operates out of the Viking Lake Campus in Eagan, Minnesota. USA Curling’s CEO, Dean Gemmell, praised Gushue for his diverse qualifications. He noted Gushue’s extensive experience in business operations and leadership on and off the ice.

Gemmell stated, “Brad’s competitive resume and knowledge of the game are well-known. He brings valuable qualities essential for this position. We are excited to have him join us as we strive for success on the international stage.”

Gushue’s appointment as the high-performance director is expected to enhance USA Curling’s competitive edge and foster the growth of the sport across various levels.
