Lego Unveils Largest Ever ‘Lord of the Rings’ Set

Lego has officially announced its latest addition to the Lord of the Rings line: the Minas Tirith set. This new release promises to be the largest set in the series, boasting an impressive 8,278 pieces. Minas Tirith surpasses the previous record holder, Rivendell, by over two thousand pieces, making it one of the largest sets that Lego has ever created.

Lego’s Minas Tirith Set Features

Unlike traditional playsets, Minas Tirith is designed as a micro-scaled display piece. It meticulously replicates the tiered architecture of the White City, from its grand gates to the fountain court featuring the iconic White Tree of Gondor. This attention to detail allows fans to appreciate the structure’s complexity.

Interestingly, the set also offers a functional aspect. By opening the lowest walls and flipping the build, users can explore a minifigure-scaled version of the city’s streets. A standout feature is the Tower Hall, which includes a throne room, historically associated with Denethor, the Steward of Gondor.

Minifigures Included

The Minas Tirith set enhances playability by including a diverse selection of minifigures. Here’s a list of the ten minifigures featured:

  • Gandalf the White with Shadowfax
  • Merry in Gondorian armor
  • Denethor (with cherry tomatoes)
  • Faramir
  • Aragorn in kingly armor
  • Arwen with the elf banner
  • Four Warriors of Minas Tirith with spears and shields

Pricing and Availability

The Minas Tirith set is priced at $650, making it the most expensive Lego Lord of the Rings set to date. It exceeds the price of Rivendell by $150. To commemorate the release, Lego is offering a special Gift With Purchase for customers who buy the set within the first week. This gift includes Grond, the legendary battering ram, along with two Mordor Orc minifigures.

Release Dates

Minas Tirith is set to be available from June 4. However, members of the Lego Insiders rewards program will have early access starting June 1.

This latest addition to the Lego Lord of the Rings series continues to embody the epic stories and intricate designs that fans cherish, promising hours of creativity and enjoyment.
