Motorcyclist Fined $3,268, Loses 32 Points for Speeding at 160 km/h on A-40

A 36-year-old motorcyclist has faced severe penalties for extreme speeding on the A-40 highway in Montreal. During the early hours of Saturday, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) attempted to pull him over when he was detected traveling at high speeds.
Incident Details
The event occurred around 1 AM as the motorcyclist was heading east on the A-40 near the A-13 interchange. Instead of stopping, he accelerated and exited towards Côte-Vertu Boulevard.
Legal Consequences
The SQ subsequently arrested the motorcyclist for several offenses:
- Exceeding the speed limit by a large margin
- Driving at night with a learner’s permit
- Weaving through traffic
- Obstructing law enforcement duties
He received four citations, amounting to a hefty fine of $3,268, and incurred 32 demerit points. The speeding was particularly alarming, as he was clocked at 160 km/h in a zone where the limit is only 50 km/h.
License Suspension
As a result of these violations, the motorcyclist has had his driving license suspended for seven days. The Sûreté du Québec emphasized that excessive speed is a leading cause of fatal collisions on Quebec’s roads.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with reckless driving and the serious penalties that come with such actions.
