Salvador Hosts National Meeting to Tackle Organized Crime This Tuesday

On Tuesday, Salvador, the capital of Bahia, will host a significant national meeting aimed at addressing organized crime. This event, running from October 12 to October 15, is designed to enhance strategies for combating organized crime in Brazil.

Key Objectives of the Meeting

The meeting will take place at the SENAI CIMATEC University and is organized by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. Key partners include the Civil Police, the State Court of Justice, and the Bahia Public Ministry.

Integration of National Initiatives

This gathering marks a pivotal integration between two crucial national initiatives:

  • National Network of Specialized Units for Combating Criminal Organizations (Renorcrim)
  • National Asset Recovery Network (Recupera)

The primary aim is to enhance joint efforts focused on financially crippling criminal organizations through improved investigations and financial pressure.

Strategic Discussions Planned

During the meeting, various strategic topics will be discussed, including:

  • Advanced techniques for criminal investigation
  • Financial intelligence in combating economic crimes
  • Enhancing legal tools for criminal prosecution
  • Strengthening cooperation among different institutional entities

Inspector André Viana emphasized the significance of the national meeting for protecting Bahia’s residents. He also highlighted the improved collaboration among institutions in safeguarding society from organized crime.

Focus on Asset Recovery

The Renorcrim, coordinated by the National Secretary of Public Security (Senasp), aims to promote cooperation among specialized police units across Brazil. This includes information sharing, ongoing training, and conducting integrated operations.

On the other hand, the Recupera network focuses on the institutional coordination required for identifying, seizing, managing, and redistributing assets linked to criminal activities. Asset recovery is viewed as one of the most effective strategies against organized crime. It aims to weaken these organizations financially and redirect illicit resources back to benefit society.
