Blue Jays Reactivate Barger to IL, Designate Lauer in Roster Shuffle
The Toronto Blue Jays are navigating another roster change, as outfielder Addison Barger heads back to the injured list due to right elbow inflammation. This move is retroactive to May 10.
Injury Updates on Addison Barger
Barger was a late scratch for the Blue Jays’ season finale against the Los Angeles Angels. The injury details were not specified, but he made a notable throw from right field during the previous game. That throw, measured at 101.2 mph, marked the fastest assist for the Blue Jays during the Statcast era.
After the game, Barger was seen speaking with reporters while applying an ice pack to his elbow. This recent injury comes after Barger had previously missed over a month due to a left ankle injury sustained on April 5 against the Chicago White Sox.
Yohendrick Pinango Joins the Team
In response to Barger’s injury, outfielder Yohendrick Pinango has returned from Triple-A Buffalo to fill his spot. Pinango will be active for the series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays. During Barger’s absence, he played 10 games for the Blue Jays, achieving a strong batting average of .423 with four RBIs.
Roster Shuffle for the Blue Jays
In addition to Barger’s injury news, the Blue Jays designated left-hander Eric Lauer for assignment. Lauer’s recent performance against the Angels was subpar, allowing six earned runs, which raised his season ERA to 6.69 across eight games. This is a stark contrast to his previous season’s ERA of 3.18.
Yariel Rodriguez Rejoins the Roster
Following Lauer’s designation, right-hander Yariel Rodriguez is back on the team and ready for action. Rodriguez was previously outrighted off the 40-man roster during the winter. He has had a productive season with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, maintaining a 2.63 ERA over 11 games.
Current Standing of the Blue Jays
Entering Monday’s game, the Blue Jays hold a record of 18-22, placing them third in the American League East. The team will strive for improvements in the upcoming games as they focus on overcoming recent challenges.
