Dahlin Criticizes Sabres for Lackluster Performance in Game 2

After a disappointing Game 2, Rasmus Dahlin expressed his determination to lead the Buffalo Sabres into Game 3 of the NHL playoffs. The Sabres now face the Montreal Canadiens at Centre Bell, with puck drop scheduled for 1:00 AM Swedish time.

Dahlin Addresses Team’s Shortcomings

The Sabres captain acknowledged the team’s lackluster performance. Dahlin emphasized the importance of the upcoming day for the team, stating, “This was not acceptable for us.” He plans to have a motivating discussion with center Tage Thompson, who had a standout performance in the regular season with 40 goals and 81 points but has struggled in the playoffs with only seven points, including two goals.

Concerns Over Power Play Efficiency

One glaring issue identified was the Sabres’ power play. In the previous game, Buffalo went scoreless during twelve minutes of power play time. Their playoff success rate of 9.4% contrasts sharply with their regular-season performance of 19.5%.

  • Game 2 Power Play: 0 goals on 12 minutes
  • Regular Season Power Play Efficiency: 19.5%
  • Playoffs Power Play Efficiency: 9.4%

Dahlin expressed the need for the team to simplify their play and maintain their energy during crucial moments. Coach Lindy Ruff echoed these sentiments, pointing out that too many mistakes led to self-defeat. Ruff remarked, “We could have done better on at least four of the goals.” He highlighted the need for improved puck management and timing.

Looking Ahead

The Sabres are now tied 1-1 in the series, reminiscent of their previous matchup with the Boston Bruins, where they overcame a second-game loss to win the series 4-2. Ruff reflects on the challenge the Canadiens present, noting their victory over a strong opponent, the Tampa Bay Lightning. He stressed the importance of the team coming together to enhance their performance as they shift focus towards Game 3.
