Montreal Man Sues KFC for $25,000 After Breaking Teeth on Sandwich

In a significant legal development, a Montreal resident has initiated a lawsuit against KFC for $25,000 after injuring his teeth on a chicken sandwich. Cédric Bernier claims that biting into the sandwich led to severe dental injuries, which he attributes to a hidden fragment of hard bone embedded in the chicken.

Details of the Incident

Bernier ordered the sandwich from a KFC location on Hochelaga via the DoorDash app in May 2023. Upon receipt, he opened the sealed packaging and began to eat, unaware of the potential danger. According to court documents, he experienced “acute and immediate pain” after biting into the sandwich.

Response from KFC

After the incident, Bernier attempted to contact KFC for assistance but did not receive a response. Pertinently, the specific KFC branch involved has since closed. As a result, he had to visit the dentist multiple times to address his injuries.

Medical Expenses and Consequences

Bernier’s treatment included a root canal and reconstructive dental work, accumulating costs amounting to $8,651. This figure does not account for potential future complications or treatments, as noted in the lawsuit.

Claims Made in the Lawsuit

According to Bernier’s lawyer, Jason Poirier Lavoie, KFC holds responsibility for the damages. He stated that the presence of a foreign object in the sandwich directly caused Bernier’s injuries, including pain and emotional distress.

  • Medical costs to date: $8,651
  • Suit amount: $25,000
  • Incident date: May 2023

If the case does not result in an out-of-court settlement, it is scheduled to be presented before a judge in the Quebec Court in the coming weeks. KFC has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
