Jesper Wallstedt to Lead Wild in Game 3 Against Avalanche

Goaltender Jesper Wallstedt is set to return as the starting goalie for the Minnesota Wild in Game 3 against the Colorado Avalanche. Head coach John Hynes confirmed his return on Saturday.
Jesper Wallstedt’s Performance and Context
Wallstedt had been the primary starter for the Wild in the playoffs until he was replaced by Filip Gustavsson for Game 2. This decision followed Wallstedt’s challenging Game 1, where he conceded eight goals.
The switch may have stemmed from his performance issues or a need for rest due to fatigue and the higher altitude in Colorado. Prior to Game 2, Wallstedt had made eight consecutive starts, an unusual workload, as he had never played more than three games in a row during the regular season.
In the playoffs, Wallstedt holds a record of 4-3, with a save percentage of .903. He has also achieved a Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx) of 4.75 in five-on-five situations across seven games. His regular-season statistics were impressive as well, with an 18-9-6 record, a save percentage of .916, and four shutouts.
Absence of Joel Eriksson Ek
In addition to Wallstedt’s return, Hynes announced that center Joel Eriksson Ek will not play in Game 3. Eriksson Ek is day-to-day with a lower-body injury sustained during the first round against the Dallas Stars.
He did not travel with the team for the first two games in Colorado. Eriksson Ek had a strong showing in the first round, recording three goals and two assists in six games. His regular-season performance also stood out, featuring 19 goals and 32 assists across 70 games.
Series Status and Upcoming Game Details
The Minnesota Wild currently trail the Avalanche 2-0 in this playoff series. They will be aiming to narrow the deficit as the series transitions to their home ice. Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at 8 p.m. CT.
