Beastie Boys’ Mike D Unveils First Solo Single

Mike D, a member of the iconic Beastie Boys, has launched his solo career with the release of “Switch Up.” This marks his first solo single, and it is the first new music from any Beastie Boy since 2011.
The Journey to “Switch Up”
The creation of “Switch Up” began as an experimental project in Mike D’s home studio. His sons, Davis and Skyler Diamond, who perform as the indie-dance duo Very Nice Person, collaborated on this track. They even surprised their father with a performance on April 11, where they delivered versions of classic Beastie Boys songs.
Production Team and Contributions
- Mike D collaborated with the Diamond brothers, who added their unique touch to the single.
- Very Nice Person is credited as producers alongside Carter Lang for the track.
The Legacy of the Beastie Boys
Since the passing of Adam “MCA” Yauch in 2012, Mike D has not performed with the Beastie Boys. Despite this, the group’s legacy remains strong. They have celebrated their history through various mediums:
- Vinyl reissues of their classic albums
- A greatest hits compilation
- A documentary directed by Spike Jonze
- An official square in New York City at Ludlow and Rivington streets
Upcoming Performances
To celebrate the release of “Switch Up,” Mike D has scheduled several performances this month:
- May 10: Sid the Cat Auditorium, South Pasadena, California
- May 22 and 23: Xanadu Roller Arts, New York
As Mike D embarks on this new musical journey, fans eagerly anticipate what else he will bring to the table as a solo artist. “Switch Up” is just the beginning of a new chapter.
