LPHF: La Charge Poised to Repeat Success Post-Second Match Break

Rebecca Leslie is hopeful that her 30th birthday celebrations will align with a crucial victory for the Ottawa Charge. This victory would propel the team closer to qualifying for the finals of the Women’s Professional Hockey League (WPHL). The Charge will host the Boston Fleet in the third game of their semifinal series, currently tied at 1-1. Leslie expressed her excitement, stating, “It’s really exciting to celebrate my birthday in May while continuing to play hockey.” She is thrilled to have family and friends attending the game.

Upcoming Match Details

A win on Leslie’s birthday would allow Ottawa to gain the series lead for the first time. The organization has branded the day as “Becca’s Birthday Celebration.” Though she looks forward to celebrating, Leslie noted that her focus is on the game. “We need to prepare for game four on Sunday. I take my matchday preparation seriously,” she said.

Recent Performance and Series Recap

With nearly a week between playoff matches, the Charge had ample time to regroup for the home game. The team first fell to Boston with a score of 2-1. However, they bounced back with a 3-1 victory over the Fleet just two days later. Captain Brianne Jenner remarked on the improved offensive aggression in their second outing but acknowledged the need for further enhancement.

  • First game result: Charge 1, Fleet 2
  • Second game result: Charge 3, Fleet 1

Jenner emphasized, “There are aspects to improve when we don’t have the puck. Our forecheck needs to be more effective.” The week-long break raised concerns about momentum loss; however, the coaching staff maintained a positive perspective. Coach Carla MacLeod quipped, “It allows us to work on different variables and view things from new angles for the third match.”

Adjustments and Home Advantage

The Charge has been able to rest adequately after a busy schedule, taking two days off before returning to the ice for practice. Defenseman Rory Guilday expressed confidence about the break, saying that it helps with player recovery. “We prefer to play more frequently, but sometimes you just have to adapt. We’re doing everything possible to maintain our performance,” she added.

All playoff games are held at the Canadian Tire Centre. With the Senators out of the NHL playoffs, the Charge’s logo now dominates the ice, a change that excites the team’s players. Leslie, who grew up watching Senators games, sees this playoff opportunity as unforgettable. “Our supporters are essential for us throughout the season,” she noted. “They’re like our seventh player on the ice. Playing at home in front of a larger audience energizes us, and we’re just thrilled.”
