European Integration Built Locally, Not Just in Brussels, Official Asserts

On May 9, the Day of Europe was celebrated by the Diputación de Valencia, highlighting the importance of local involvement in European integration. Carlos Gil, the Secretary of Institutional Politics and Territorial Cohesion, emphasized that Europe is built not solely in Brussels but also within every municipality.

Local Role in European Integration

During the event, Gil articulated the goal of promoting equality among territories. This principle, he noted, is fundamental to the European project. He stated, “We must ensure that all municipalities have equal opportunities for advancement.”

Commitment to Municipal Support

To foster this equality, Gil extended support from the Autonomous Secretariat of Territorial Cohesion and the General Directorate of European Funds to local councils. He said, “This evolution is only possible if municipalities work on it daily, with the support of higher administrations.”

Gil expressed his desire for municipalities to perceive the government as a partner in their development. He concluded, “If the Valencia Community thrives, Europe will thrive as well.”
