The race for the prestigious Norris Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s top defenseman, has narrowed down to three finalists. The nominees for this coveted accolade are Rasmus Dahlin, Cale Makar, and Zach Werenski.

Norris Trophy Finalists Announced

  • Rasmus Dahlin – First-time nominee
  • Cale Makar – Six-time finalist and three-time winner
  • Zach Werenski – Consecutive finalist

Rasmus Dahlin: Emerging Star

Rasmus Dahlin earns his first Norris Trophy nomination after a standout season. He led the Buffalo Sabres to break a 14-year playoff drought, winning the Atlantic Division title. Dahlin registered 74 points, with 19 goals and 55 assists, across 77 games. His average ice time was 24:11 per game.

Cale Makar: Proven Champion

Cale Makar continues to showcase his elite talent this season. The Calgary native has been a finalist six times, winning the award thrice. In 75 games, he scored 20 goals and amassed 79 points, contributing to the Colorado Avalanche securing the Presidents’ Trophy. Makar’s consistency is notable; he has only missed the Norris shortlist once in his seven career seasons, joining the legendary Bobby Orr as the only defensemen to achieve this feat.

Zach Werenski: Resilient Competitor

Zach Werenski is nominated for the Norris Trophy for the second consecutive year. The Olympic gold medalist nearly led his Columbus Blue Jackets to the playoffs this season. He achieved 22 goals and 81 points in 75 games, ranking second among defensemen in the league. Last season, he finished as runner-up to Makar for the award.
