Myst and Riven Remakes Arrive on PS5 and PS VR2 May 19

Cyan is set to launch modern remakes of its classic puzzle adventure games, Myst and Riven, on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2. The highly anticipated release date is May 19.

Myst and Riven: A Brief History

Originally released in the 1990s for PC and PlayStation, Myst and its sequel, Riven, quickly became cultural icons. The original Myst achieved remarkable success, holding the title of the world’s best-selling PC game for nearly a decade after its debut in 1993.

Last year, Cyan collaborated with Sony Interactive Entertainment to re-release the classic versions of both games digitally, and they remain available for purchase in most global regions.

Innovations in Gameplay

The remakes will support both flatscreen and PS VR2 gameplay from launch. Cyan has worked diligently to ensure that both playstyles offer a captivating experience. Lessons learned from their previous title, Firmament, informed many improvements, enhancing interactions, graphics, and overall performance.

Ray-Traced Reflections and Performance Mode

  • Ray tracing is available in flatscreen mode only, allowing for realistic reflections.
  • While ray-traced reflections are active, the game will run at 30 FPS.
  • Disabling the ray tracing option increases the frame rate to 60 FPS.

Players can adjust these settings in the Display menu to customize their experience between graphics and performance enhancements.

Enhanced Features for PS5 Pro

Both Myst and Riven are optimized for PS5 Pro, offering higher graphical fidelity in flatscreen mode. Improvements include better view distance, enhanced textures, and refined shading.

In VR mode on PS5 Pro, players will enjoy an improved base render resolution. The games utilize advanced upscaling techniques using Unreal Engine to ensure compelling graphics across both PS5 and PS5 Pro systems.

Energy-Efficient Gaming

Both Myst and Riven will support the new Power Saver mode on PS5. This feature allows games to reduce performance to save on energy consumption. When activated, games will operate at a fixed 30 FPS and reduced base render resolution.

Upcoming Release and Availability

The remakes of Myst and Riven will be available for pre-purchase starting today, May 5, at a price of $34.99 each. Players can look forward to a nostalgic yet modern experience when these titles launch on May 19.

Cyan expresses gratitude for the community’s ongoing support and looks forward to creating remarkable gaming experiences in the future.
