Jérôme Durain Announces Free Physiotherapy Studies Starting 2026

Jérôme Durain, the president of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, recently visited the Institute of Masso-Kinesitherapy Training (IFMK) in Dijon. During this visit, he made a significant announcement regarding the accessibility of health studies in the region.

Free Physiotherapy Studies Starting 2026

Starting in September 2026, students will no longer have to pay for masso-kinésithérapie training at the Dijon campus. The program will become free as it transitions to the University of Bourgogne Europe, UFR Santé. This move aims to enhance public interest and equity in health education.

Addressing Financial Barriers

Previously, students faced a hefty price tag of about €20,000 over four years for their studies in Dijon. This cost created disparities, especially with students from Franche-Comté who received free university education. The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region will cover all operational costs associated with the training, thereby eliminating financial barriers.

  • Previous Cost: €20,000 for four years
  • Current Student Population: 780 in masso-kinésithérapie
  • Students in Dijon: 320
  • Professionals currently practicing in the region: 2,500
  • Graduation Employment Rate: 98% within six months

A Commitment to Youth and Healthcare

Durain emphasized that this initiative is a matter of justice, equity, and commitment to the youth. He stated, “You will no longer need to incur debt to pursue this training.” This decision will not only benefit students but also enhance healthcare in both urban and rural areas by ensuring a steady supply of qualified professionals.

The region’s strong collaboration with the University of Bourgogne Europe, the CHU of Dijon, and other partners reinforces this initiative. It highlights a determined effort to improve access to healthcare training in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
