Rolling Stones Announce Upcoming Album ‘Foreign Tongues’

The Rolling Stones have exciting news for their fans. They have announced a new album titled Foreign Tongues, set to release on July 10. As a part of this announcement, the band dropped a new single called In The Stars. To celebrate the occasion, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood will attend an album event in Brooklyn later today.

Details of the Upcoming Album Foreign Tongues

This release follows the band’s last album, Hackney Diamonds, launched in 2023. Hackney Diamonds was a significant project, marking their first album of original music in 18 years since A Bigger Bang in 2005. It was also their first complete album after the passing of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021, who featured posthumously on two tracks from that project.

Foreign Tongues will also include a special feature from Watts, crafted from one of his final recording sessions before his death. This album features contributions from notable musicians, including:

  • Steve Winwood
  • Paul McCartney
  • Robert Smith of The Cure
  • Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Mick Jagger expressed his enthusiasm for the recording process, stating, “I love doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis. It was a very intense few weeks recording Foreign Tongues.” He emphasized the energy in the recording room, stating that it allowed everyone to feel the passion involved.

Collaboration with Andrew Watt

The Rolling Stones continued their collaboration with producer Andrew Watt for this album. Watt, an Oscar-winning producer, is known for his work with major artists like Post Malone and Justin Bieber. His involvement in both Hackney Diamonds and now Foreign Tongues has further solidified the creative partnership.

Teasing the Album’s Arrival

Rumors of a new album had circulated for weeks prior to the official announcement. This speculation began with posters appearing around London under the pseudonym ‘The Cockroaches’, a name previously used by the band. These posters included QR codes that led fans to a sign-up page on thecockroaches.com, which linked back to Universal Music, the Stones’ label.

In a clever marketing move, a limited white label vinyl release of the track Rough and Twisted was issued using the Cockroaches name. This served as an initial teaser for Foreign Tongues, aimed at dedicated fans. As the announcement approached, billboards featuring the band’s iconic logo were displayed in major cities worldwide, showcasing the name Foreign Tongues in various languages.

Additionally, the band updated their official website, featuring video segments styled like surveillance footage from their studio sessions. Just before the announcement, a slide puzzle graphic that depicted what fans suspected to be the album cover circulated online. Subsequently, a brief 10-second video teased a new song, heightening anticipation among the fanbase.
