TTC Issues Cause Brief Friday Morning Subway Suspension

On Friday morning, subway service on Toronto’s Line 2 experienced a brief suspension. This disruption occurred around 7:10 a.m. due to a mechanical problem, affecting the stretch between Broadview and Woodbine stations. Service resumed shortly before 8 a.m., allowing commuters to continue their journeys.
TTC Struggles with Subway Service Interruptions
This incident on Friday follows a series of challenges faced by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). The prior day, both Line 2 (Bloor–Danforth) and Line 4 (Sheppard) were completely shut down for approximately 30 minutes. The TTC attributed this disruption to software bugs affecting their systems.
Investigation into Software Issues
The TTC stated that they are currently investigating a software issue related to their train supervision system. This problem contributed to the service challenges on both Friday and Thursday. Fortunately, the Automatic Train Control system on Line 1 (Yonge–University) was not affected by these recent troubles.
- Date of Friday Incident: 7:10 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
- Impacted Line: Line 2 (Bloor–Danforth)
- Previous Incident: Thursday closure for about 30 minutes on Lines 2 and 4
- Cause of Previous Disruption: Software bugs
Recent History of Service Disruptions
The challenges facing the TTC are not new. Earlier last month, the head of the TTC publicly apologized for a hydraulic brake fluid spill that also caused significant disruptions on Line 2. This pattern of intermittent service outages highlights ongoing issues within the city’s transit system.
As investigations continue, the TTC emphasizes that operating safeguards remain in effect to ensure passenger safety. Commuters will be hoping for more reliable subway service in the days to come.
