Tamil Nadu Election 2026: Vote Counting Starts, Focus on Vijay’s TVK and DMK

The vote counting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2026 has commenced in four key districts. This includes Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai. Counting began at 8 a.m. across five different locations in these districts.
Vote Counting Process
Officials opened the strong rooms with the presence of candidates or their authorized representatives. The counting process starts with postal ballots, followed by votes from electronic voting machines (EVMs). The counting of EVM votes will only begin after all postal ballots are processed.
Prominent Candidates
Several notable figures are competing in this election. Key candidates include:
- Duraimurugan (Katpadi)
- E.V. Velu (Tiruvannamalai)
- R. Gandhi (Ranipet)
- K. Pitchandi (Kilpennathur)
- K.C. Veeramani (Jolarpet)
- S.S. ‘Agri’ Krishnamoorthy (Kalasapakkam)
Political Landscape
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is contesting in 17 out of the 21 total Assembly constituencies in these districts. Notable constituencies include Jolarpet, Ambur, Arcot, and Vellore.
Partners of the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) are also in contention, including:
- VCK (Arakkonam)
- Congress (Sholinghur)
- IUML (Vaniyambadi)
- DMDK (Polur)
The AIADMK, along with its allies, is participating in a significant portion of the elections. Their alliance includes:
- BJP (Tiruvannamalai)
- PMK (Sholinghur, Polur)
- AMMK (Tirupattur)
- TMC(M) (Ranipet)
Security Arrangements
To ensure a smooth counting process, a robust security framework has been established. More than 4,000 police personnel, including Central forces, are stationed around the counting centers. Each constituency has arranged 16 tables to facilitate the counting rounds effectively.
