Marvel Studios Unveils First Glimpse of Fourth Cyclops Costume

Marvel Studios has unveiled an exciting new costume for Cyclops, one of the most iconic leaders of the X-Men. This fourth iteration of Scott Summers’ costume comes ahead of James Marsden’s return to the role in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. This marks the first time Marsden will don the ruby visor in over ten years, aligning with Cyclops’ growing prominence in pop culture.

Cyclops and X-Men ’97

Cyclops’ leadership is also highlighted in the animated series X-Men ’97. The first season has recently gained attention, and anticipation builds for the second season. The new Funko Pop! collectible features Cyclops’ alternate costume from the series, specifically the Wasteland design.

New Collectible and Costume Details

  • Collectible Name: Marvel Animation X-Men ’97 Cyclops (Wasteland) Bobblehead #1596
  • Costume Design: The suit features a prominent white X across the chest and white stripes on each pant leg.
  • Release Date: The collectible is currently available for pre-order.
  • Initial Teaser: This design was hinted at during the trailer release at New York Comic-Con in October 2025.

Jean Grey’s costume from X-Men ’97 Season 2 has also been revealed. Unlike her classic blue and yellow attire, her new outfit features a fitted red bodysuit paired with a dark brown tactical jacket, complemented by a yellow X emblem.

The storyline set for Season 2 is particularly engaging, as it continues from Season 1’s cliffhanger. Cyclops and Jean Grey find themselves stranded in 3960 AD, preparing for a confrontation with Apocalypse and the Clan Askani.

Costume Evolution in X-Men ’97

The Wasteland suit is just one of several costume designs Cyclops has sported in X-Men ’97. His look from Season 1 includes:

  • A royal blue bodysuit with bright yellow accents.
  • Harness straps over the shoulders and chest leading to a utility belt with an X-logo buckle.
  • Yellow gloves, boots, and trunks completing the outfit.

This design pays homage to Cyclops’ comic book roots while offering a modern twist. The character’s evolution includes a more traditional look that harkens back to his debut in the 1960s. Cyclops’ various costumes reflect the diverse interpretations Marvel Animation has brought to life.

Live-Action Return in Avengers: Doomsday

In Avengers: Doomsday, James Marsden’s live-action costume draws heavy inspiration from the upgraded tactical suit in X-Men ’97. His outfit features:

  • A blue suit with a yellow belt buckle.
  • Bold yellow lines running across the chest, mirroring the animated design.
  • The absence of trunks differentiates it from the animated version, but the color palette remains faithful to ’97.

This strategic move by Marvel Studios marks a shift towards aligning live-action designs with comic book aesthetics. Fans can anticipate further costume announcements as the 2028 reboot unfolds.
