Goodwood Cancels Final Races Over Unsafe Track Conditions

Goodwood Racecourse has canceled its last two races due to unsafe track conditions. This decision followed an incident where three horses slipped on the pull-up area after the one-mile two-furlong handicap.
Heavy Showers Prompt Race Abandonment
A sudden downpour hit the track, rendering it unsafe for further racing. Following a thorough inspection after the sixth race, officials determined that conditions were unsuitable for competitors.
Ed Arkell, the clerk of the course, explained the situation to Racing TV. He noted that while the ground had been satisfactory prior to the rain, the heavy shower created slippery conditions:
“Everybody’s been happy with the ground over the last two days. We had a lot of rain, and it takes time for it to get into the ground.”
Successful Performances Despite the Disruption
Before the cancellation, notable performances occurred on the track. Blue Bolt returned to action in the Listed Conqueror Fillies’ Stakes, securing victory for jockey Colin Keane. Owned by Juddmonte and trained by Andrew Balding, this four-year-old filly also registered her fourth win in seven starts.
- Blue Bolt previously secured second place in the Atalanta Stakes.
- She also finished second in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes.
Keane expressed optimism for Blue Bolt’s future, commenting, “She’s definitely strengthened… I felt we had the measure of Kon Tiki.” He anticipates more success for her this season.
Soul Love Continues to Impress
Karl Burke’s Soul Love also made headlines with a victory in the Listed Fitzdares Chelmer Fillies’ Stakes. The Starman filly has made significant strides this season, winning three of her four races.
- She debuted successfully at Southwell last November.
- Soul Love’s recent win marks her third victory this season.
Despite the disruptions at Goodwood, these horses showcased their potential, offering hope for promising performances in the upcoming races.
