Sofia Launches 2026 Motorcycle Season, Urges Compliance with Traffic Laws

The motorcycle season of 2026 officially commenced in Sofia, marked by a significant event held at Alexander Nevsky Square. During the ceremony, Father Kostadin performed a water blessing ritual and emphasized the importance of tolerance among all road users.
Sofia’s Motorcycle Season Launch
Dozens of motorcyclists participated in a procession through the main boulevards of the city, concluding their ride in the Boyana neighborhood. This event signals the return of motorcyclists to the roads as the weather continues to warm up.
Importance of Traffic Compliance
Lyubomir Zhingov, a representative of the Sofia Motorcyclists Association, urged both motorcyclists and drivers to adhere to traffic laws. He stated, “Motorcyclists are back on the road – watch out for them and follow the rules.” His plea highlighted the necessity for road safety.
- Zhingov called for heightened caution among riders.
- He emphasized the need for all road users to follow the Road Traffic Act.
- He recommended driving at safe speeds due to Bulgaria’s road conditions.
Traffic Safety Concerns
Zhingov pointed out that Bulgaria’s road infrastructure does not match the standards found in Western Europe, which may lead to a higher risk of accidents. The Sofia Motorcyclists Association has also raised concerns regarding year-round third-party liability insurance for motorcyclists. They argue that paying for a full year is unjust when vehicles are primarily used during the warmer months.
Upcoming Discussions
In response to these issues, the Sofia Motorcyclists Association is set to meet next week with officials from the Financial Supervision Commission, alongside the national ombudsman. The association looks forward to discussing their concerns and seeking a resolution.
