Honda is set to unveil new measures to reduce engine vibrations and enhance reliability during the upcoming Miami Grand Prix. This initiative comes after the automotive giant reported significant progress during the five-week break in F1 races. The partnership between Honda and Aston Martin aims to elevate the Silverstone-based team’s performance for the 2026 season.
Challenges Faced by Aston Martin and Honda
The initial collaboration between Honda and Aston Martin has faced substantial obstacles. The AMR26 package, crafted under designer Adrian Newey, experienced production delays and emerged only shortly before the season started. Consequently, it struggled with both speed and reliability throughout its first three race weekends.
- Aston Martin’s only race finish came from Fernando Alonso, who placed 18th in Japan.
- The team’s performance in Australia and China was hampered by severe vibrations.
Efforts to Improve Performance
In light of these challenges, Honda and Aston Martin have collaborated intensively during the extended break between races. With the cancellations of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, both teams have focused on remedies for the problems hindering their performance.
Updates from Honda’s Leadership
During a recent media session at the Miami International Autodrome, Shintaro Orihara, Honda’s Trackside General Manager and Chief Engineer, provided insights into the partnership’s progress. He noted that the time since the last race has been productive.
According to Orihara:
- The work between the teams has been extensive in Japan and the UK.
- Progress has been made in combating vibrations, leading to reliability improvements.
- Further countermeasures will be implemented during the Miami event and later races.
Looking Ahead to the Miami Grand Prix
Fernando Alonso expressed optimism about the developments. He highlighted advancements at Aston Martin’s Silverstone facility in aerodynamic performance. He noted that Honda’s focus on reliability and vibrations is crucial as the season continues.
Lance Stroll echoed Alonso’s sentiments, acknowledging the recognized issues and emphasizing that solutions are in the works. He stated: “We have an idea of some of the answers, but implementing them takes time.”
