Bolton University Addresses Misleading Video, Supports Students

Bolton Council has responded to allegations stemming from a misleading video involving students at the University of Greater Manchester. The video, recently circulated online, has falsely portrayed international students using accommodation at Orlando Village in Bolton.
Misleading Video Sparks Controversy
The video shows a group of individuals gathered outside the Orlando Village accommodation complex on Thynne Street, Great Lever. In the 15-second clip, packed suitcases and bags are visible on the pavement. A misleading caption refers to the individuals as “illegals” and implies they are being “shipped in,” which has caused considerable concern.
Clarification from Bolton Council
In an official statement, Bolton Council emphasized that the individuals depicted in the video are international students returning home after completing their studies. The council aims to correct the misinformation circulating about asylum seekers and the students at the university.
- Orlando Village is a 383-room accommodation complex.
- It is the only approved accommodation provider by the University of Greater Manchester.
- The students featured in the video had been studying at the university for the past 12 months.
“We are aware of a video circulating online with false and misleading information about students based at Orlando Village in Bolton,” a council spokesperson stated. “We will continue to work with both Orlando Village and the university to support staff and students impacted by these false allegations.”
Bolton Council’s proactive approach aims to protect the reputation of the university and support the affected students during this time of misinformation.
