Former BSB Rider Seizes Isle of Man TT Opportunity Through New Program

Franco Bourne, a former British Superbike (BSB) rider, is set to debut at the Isle of Man TT in 2026. He will compete for Team ILR, led by the experienced Ian Lougher. This opportunity comes after Bourne participated in a groundbreaking initiative aimed at preparing riders for the prestigious event.

Franco Bourne’s Path to the Isle of Man TT

Despite not competing in the traditional Manx Grand Prix, Bourne’s journey to the Isle of Man TT has been unconventional. In 2025, he took part in the Pilot Lap program, which allowed him to familiarize himself with the TT course under controlled conditions. The initiative focuses on essential skills such as reading the road, identifying crucial reference points, and honing judgement along with speed.

The Pilot Lap Initiative

Launched in 2025, the Pilot Lap initiative was designed to help riders like Bourne prepare effectively for the Isle of Man TT. The program included:

  • Controlled laps on the TT course
  • Guidance from experienced rider liaison officers, including Milky Quayle
  • Focus on understanding the demands of the road

This program was critical for Bourne, as it clarified his approach to the upcoming races. He stated that the experience helped solidify his decision to compete at the TT.

Team ILR and Racing Equipment

Franco Bourne will race in two classes at the Isle of Man TT: Superstock and Sportbike. He will ride a Honda CBR1000RR-R for the Superstock class and a Paton S1-R for the Sportbike class. Team ILR is enthusiastic about Bourne’s potential and aims to support his development in road racing.

Team principal Ian Lougher expressed confidence in Bourne, stating, “He’s a rider with real potential and the right attitude.” Lougher emphasized the team’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing a supportive environment for Bourne.

Looking Forward to TT 2026

Bourne conveyed his excitement for the upcoming race in 2026. He expressed gratitude for the mentorship he will receive from Lougher and the entire Team ILR. As he prepares for this significant milestone, Bourne is focused on being well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

The experienced team and innovative training strategies signify a promising future for Franco Bourne in road racing, especially as he embarks on this new challenge at the Isle of Man TT.
