Changes in Bhutan’s Tourism Policy
Traditionally, visitors to Bhutan were required to book through authorized tour operators. This package typically included accommodation, meals, a guide, and internal transport, costing between US$200 and US$250 (£148-185) per day.
However, in 2022, Bhutan modified its tourism model. The comprehensive daily package was replaced with a new fee structure to enhance accessibility.
New Sustainable Development Fee
As part of the changes, Bhutan introduced a Sustainable Development Fee of $100 (£74) per adult per night. This fee is now charged separately, allowing travelers more flexibility in arranging their travel expenses.
