Traffic Challenges Entering Montreal This Morning

This morning, traffic challenges in Montreal significantly impacted many commuters. The difficulties stemmed from vehicle breakdowns and accidents on the South Shore and within the city. According to data from the Quebec Ministry of Transport via Québec 511, numerous incidents disrupted major roadways throughout the metropolitan area.

Key Traffic Incidents

Several major highways reported issues:

  • Highway 15 North (Décarie): Vehicle breakdown before the Sherbrooke exit.
  • Highway 40 West (Félix-Leclerc): Vehicle breakdown after Boulevard Gouin.
  • Highway 25 North: Two-vehicle accident at the Bombardier exit.
  • Highway 20 East: Road work at the 1re Avenue exit.
  • Highway 13 North (Laval): Vehicle breakdown on the ramp to Highway 640 West.

Additional Road Challenges

More incidents affected Highway 15 near the Sherbrooke exit and Royalmount entrance. Similar challenges were reported on Highway 40 in several areas, including Acadie and Côte-Vertu, and on Highway 25 near the end of the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel.

Significant slowdowns were also noted on Route 132 and near the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, with at least one incident contributing to the delays. Google Maps indicated extensive traffic issues in Longueuil and surrounding areas.

Emergency Response and Road Closures

Officials from the Longueuil Police Service were unable to confirm the details of the incidents due to a high volume of calls. In downtown Montreal, street closures occurred for a ceremony honoring Sergeant Investigator Anaïs Fortin-Cozzens, exacerbating congestion in the area.

Traffic Management and Recommendations

Other roadblocks were evident, particularly in Brossard on Highway 10 and Boisbriand on Highways 13 and 15. Although many incidents have been marked as resolved, some remain ongoing, causing persistent slowdowns during peak hours.

Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and check traffic conditions before heading out. Staying informed can help alleviate some of the frustrations associated with morning commutes amid the noted traffic challenges.
