Benoît Gagnon Survives Multiple Strokes in One Weekend

Benoît Gagnon, a well-known television host, recently shared a poignant update about his health challenges. In a heartfelt video on Facebook, he detailed how he survived multiple strokes over one weekend, leaving him with a visible scar on his neck and issues with speech.

Benoît Gagnon’s Health Crisis

The 54-year-old Benoît experienced a medical incident on April 8 while walking in the city. He suffered a transient ischemic attack (TIA), which is a temporary disruption of blood flow to the brain, on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge. Following this, he was promptly taken to Pierre-Boucher Hospital for treatment.

After being discharged, Benoît even managed to record an episode of “Survivor Québec.” However, his condition deteriorated over the following weekend. He encountered severe fatigue, jaw drooping, and significant difficulty speaking. “What I didn’t know was that while I was home watching golf, I had between five to eight mini-strokes,” he revealed.

Emergency Surgery

Due to this alarming situation, Benoît underwent urgent surgery on a Tuesday morning. During the procedure, he suffered a major stroke, which resulted in him spending six to seven hours in the recovery room.

No Lasting Damage

Despite the setbacks, Benoît reported no permanent brain damage after undergoing various scans and MRIs. His heart is also in good condition. The difficulties he is experiencing with speech stem from a nerve in his tongue that was affected during the surgery.

Gratitude and Support

Benoît expressed deep appreciation for the support of his brother and his partner, Nathalie, who provided strength and patience throughout this ordeal. He also thanked his son, Mathieu, for visiting him daily in the hospital.

  • Benoît is optimistic about his recovery and reassured his audience that he is doing well.
  • He noted that he needs time to rest and heal but is eager to return to his work.
  • He emphasized his commitment to transparency with his followers about his health journey.

In conclusion, Benoît is hopeful, stating, “I can’t wait to come back, I am on fire.” He appreciates the understanding and patience from his audience during this challenging period.
