Angel Reese Returns to Chicago, Embraces New Beginning with Atlanta Dream

Angel Reese, a prominent player in the WNBA, recently returned to Chicago, reconnecting with her roots as she joins the Atlanta Dream. The two-time All-Star expressed her contentment during a recent shootaround at Wintrust Arena, where she spent the early years of her professional career. Although she is now on the visiting team, her fond memories of Chicago remain strong.
Reese’s Transition to the Atlanta Dream
Reese reflected on her time in Chicago with gratitude. “I have a home here still. So, it’s always good seeing Chicago,” she stated. Despite feeling a bit awkward in the visitors’ locker room, she emphasizes her excitement for this new chapter with the Dream.
- Played for the Chicago Sky for two seasons.
- Led the league in rebounds per game during both seasons.
- Averaged 14.1 points and 12.9 rebounds over her tenure with the Sky.
Earlier this month, the Chicago Sky traded Reese for two future first-round draft picks. This decision followed a difficult period, including Reese’s critical comments about the team’s roster and a suspension for technical fouls. “I think it was just best for me to move on,” she noted. “I’m grateful for Chicago for putting me in a situation where I could come somewhere that I really wanted.”
New Opportunities with the Atlanta Dream
In her pursuit of growth, Reese aims to expand her skills beyond the paint. During practice, she practiced long-range shooting, a crucial aspect of the Dream’s up-tempo style under coach Karl Smesko. “We expect that from her this year,” teammate Rhyne Howard remarked, highlighting Reese’s commitment to developing her game further.
As she prepares for this season, Reese is eager to contribute to the Dream. “I’ve been happy every day. I’ve shown all 32 teeth every single day,” she said, embodying a positive attitude as she embarks on her new journey.
