Ten Traffic Violations Issued After Truck Interception

Recently, a significant incident occurred involving a heavy truck that was intercepted for serious mechanical deficiencies, leading to the issuance of ten traffic violations.
Details of the Truck Interception
The truck was stopped on a Tuesday at the Saint-Célestin roadside inspection station located in Centre-du-Québec. Inspection revealed a total of 39 deficiencies: 9 major and 30 minor. The mechanical issues included:
- Improperly secured fixing bracket allowing axle movement.
- Significant air leak during braking.
- Structural cracks on the semi-trailer in six places.
- Two tires with insufficient tread depth.
Due to these deficiencies, authorities enforced an immediate out-of-service status to ensure road user safety. The truck was subsequently towed to an impound lot pending necessary repairs.
Previous Warnings Ignored
This driver had previously been stopped two weeks earlier but continued to operate the vehicle despite being given a 48-hour repair deadline. The driver faced fines exceeding $3,000 for violations including non-compliance with driving hours, rest periods, and vehicle inspection requirements.
Penalties for Vehicle Owners
The truck’s owners also faced consequences. Each received a traffic violation notice with a fine of $1,218 for failing to maintain the vehicle’s mechanical condition.
Monitoring Safety Standards
According to Sergeant Sébastien Drolet from the Québec Road Control (CRQ), the situation reflects typical behavior associated with underqualified drivers, commonly referred to as “chauffeurs inc.” While the driver may fit this profile, proving it can be challenging. The CRQ continues to monitor such cases closely.
In total, the interception resulted in ten traffic violations. This incident serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance and adherence to safety regulations on the road.
