Defendant Jailed for Obsessive Diaper Theft from Bins | ITV News

A 47-year-old defendant, Abbi Taylor, has been sentenced to prison for her continual offense of stealing soiled nappies from bins. This behavior, described as a “grotesque obsession,” led to her incarceration at Newcastle Crown Court.
Background on Abbi Taylor
Taylor, who has previously appeared under the name Martin Tarling, has faced legal issues stemming from her conduct since at least April 2023. A criminal behavior order issued by Nottinghamshire Magistrates’ Court specifically banned her from approaching nurseries within 10 meters.
Recent Court Proceedings
During the sentencing on April 28, Taylor was found to have breached this order multiple times. Recorder Tony Hawks emphasized the troubling nature of her actions, stating they are distressing to the communities around care homes and nurseries.
Details of Offenses
In December, Taylor committed four separate infractions of the criminal behavior order. Incidents included:
- Removing soiled nappies from clinical waste bins.
- Leaving them scattered in public gardens.
Previous Legal History
In August 2025, she received a suspended prison sentence after admitting guilt to similar offenses at nurseries in South Tyneside. Reports from staff members highlighted the presence of “much larger” nappies appearing regularly in their facilities.
Current Sentencing
After acknowledging her repeated breaches of the law, Taylor has now been sentenced to 30 months in prison. This decision comes after concerns were raised regarding the distress her actions cause to the community.
Understanding the Impact
Psychiatric evaluations indicated that Taylor’s actions were not motivated by sexual urges; however, they remain highly antisocial. The court has urged her to reconsider her behavior prior to her eventual release.
Recorder Hawks warned Taylor about the potential for longer sentences if her conduct continues in the future. The community remains affected by her behavior, which has now resulted in significant legal consequences.
