Ondo Finance Empowers $700M Token Holders with Proxy Voting Rights

Ondo Finance is enhancing the landscape of tokenized equities by introducing proxy voting rights for its token holders. This innovative feature was developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions and facilitates greater corporate governance participation.

Empowering $700M Token Holders

Investors holding over 250 tokenized securities on Ondo’s platform can now review company filings and express voting preferences through Broadridge’s ProxyVote system. This integration allows seamless access via cryptocurrency wallets, enabling users to engage with governance tools typically found in traditional brokerage accounts.

Growth of Tokenized Equities

The introduction of proxy voting coincides with the significant expansion of the tokenized equities market, which now has over $1.1 billion in value locked. This sector has tripled in size over the past year, demonstrating its rapid growth within the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

  • Current market value of tokenized equities: $1.1 billion
  • Growth: Tripled in size over the past year
  • Ondo Finance’s total stock and ETF tokens: Over $700 million

Importance of Governance in Tokenized Assets

Historically, tokenized equity offerings have often lacked fundamental governance rights. Ondo’s new system enables investors to express their voting preferences, which can influence the decision-making process regarding the shares held by the platform. While Ondo’s tokens do not confer direct shareholder rights, they enhance stakeholder engagement within the governance framework.

Vision for Accessibility in Finance

Ondo’s global head of institutional, Matthieu de Vergnes, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the company’s vision to make traditional financial assets more accessible. Investors can now enjoy the benefits of on-chain technology, such as easy transferability and compatibility with decentralized finance (DeFi), alongside the governance features linked to the underlying assets.

Broadridge’s Role in Blockchain Integration

Broadridge, known for processing extensive proxy votes in conventional markets, is now extending its infrastructure to support blockchain systems. The firm aims to create a seamless integration of digital and traditional assets, enhancing transparency and compliance for tokenized investors.

According to Danielle Gurrieri, Senior Vice President and Head of Product Management at Broadridge, achieving a high level of auditability and compliance in the tokenized realm will foster scalability and build trust among investors.

With these developments, Ondo Finance is poised to redefine the interaction between investors and tokenized assets, paving the way for a more engaging and participatory financial future.
