London Marathon May Reschedule Future Dates Amid Climate Change Concerns

The London Marathon is contemplating a potential rescheduling of its race dates due to rising temperature concerns linked to climate change. CEO Hugh Brasher indicated that an adjustment could help manage the heat that runners experience during the event. The 2025 marathon recorded temperatures around 22°C (72°F), while the 2018 event reached a peak of 24.2°C (76°F), setting a record for the hottest race to date.

This year, the London Marathon is set for Sunday, 26 April, with a forecast promising cooler conditions, ranging from 11°C to 17°C during the race. This favorable weather is expected to assist runners aiming for personal best times.

Following the Paris Marathon’s decision to eliminate single-use water cups and bottles in favor of a refillable options, Brasher noted that such initiatives are part of ongoing discussions about sustainability. He emphasized the importance of health and safety concerning race temperatures, stating, “The world is heating up, and people ask, would you move the London Marathon? Of course we would.”
