Zac Taylor Continues As Bengals’ Playcaller Amid Three-Game Skid

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has decided to maintain his position as the team’s offensive playcaller despite their recent struggles. The Cincinnati Bengals have faced a tough three-game losing streak, culminating in a 37-24 defeat against the Detroit Lions.
Zac Taylor’s Commitment After Three-Game Skid
In the recent matchup, Cincinnati’s offense scored only 3 points in the first three quarters, continuing a concerning trend over the last three weeks. Addressing the media, Taylor acknowledged his responsibility in the team’s challenges but expressed confidence in his playcalling abilities.
Quarterback Situation Deteriorates
Compounding the Bengals’ difficulties is the absence of starting quarterback Joe Burrow, who has been sidelined since Week 2 due to a turf toe injury. Jake Browning has taken over as the starter, but his performance has not alleviated the team’s offensive woes.
Offensive Struggles in Statistics
As the season progresses, Cincinnati finds itself near the bottom in key offensive statistics:
- 30th in points per drive (1.52)
- 31st in yards per play (4.3)
- Tied for 28th in offensive points per game (17)
With the Bengals at a disappointing 2-3, Taylor emphasized the need to get playmakers more involved to enhance productivity. “We haven’t been productive enough. I care about wins,” he stated, highlighting his focus on improving results rather than raw statistics.
Upcoming Game and Player Evaluations
Looking ahead, the Bengals will face the Green Bay Packers in an upcoming game. As the week progresses, Taylor mentioned that the decision on Browning’s starting status will depend on his performance in practice.
Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher indicated that there will be discussions with Browning to help improve his game. After throwing three interceptions against Detroit, Browning has now totaled eight interceptions this season.
Pitcher also acknowledged that the challenges extend beyond the quarterback position. “We, collectively, have not come close to doing that,” he said, stressing the need for the entire offense to step up.
As Zac Taylor continues in his dual role, the Bengals must find a way to regain their footing and turn around their faltering season.
