Wells Reserve to Host Earth Day 2026 Cleanup and Crafts Event

The Wells Reserve at Laudholm is set to host a special Earth Day event on April 22, 2026. This community celebration will feature a variety of activities aimed at raising awareness about environmental conservation.
Event Highlights
The Earth Day 2026 event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting with a beach cleanup on Laudholm Beach. Volunteers will gather at the gazebo on the campus before walking along the Barrier Beach Trail to the shoreline. Their mission will be to remove debris and learn about the detrimental effects of marine litter.
Nature-Themed Activities
Following the cleanup, festivities will continue on campus from noon to 2 p.m. Attendees can participate in numerous hands-on, nature-oriented activities including:
- Seed planting with Maine Master Gardeners
- Creating leaf prints
- Making earth pledges
- A pollinator scavenger hunt
These activities aim to educate participants about the essential role that insects play in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
Within the Whale Exhibit
A major highlight of the event will be the immersive exhibit “Within the Whale,” which opens at 1 p.m. This life-size inflatable humpback whale offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore its anatomy and understand its ecological significance. Knowledgeable educators will lead tours, explaining how whales contribute to the health of our oceans and maintain ecological balance.
