Paraná’s Youth Voter Registration Soars 33% in Early 2026

In early 2026, Paraná has witnessed a remarkable 33% increase in youth voter registration for individuals aged 15 to 17. This surge, resulting in 18,312 new voter IDs issued, is attributed to targeted initiatives by the Justice Electoral system.

Growth in Youth Voter Registration in Paraná

As of March 2026, approximately 72,425 young voters in the state fall within this age group. The Tribunal Regional Eleitoral do Paraná (TRE-PR) has proactively implemented measures to encourage young residents to register, despite their voting participation not being mandatory until they turn 18.

Voter Eligibility for Upcoming Elections

To be eligible to vote in the 2026 elections, youth must be 16 years old by October 4. This registration drive aims to motivate young people to obtain their voter IDs ahead of the elections.

Community Outreach Efforts

  • From March 9 to March 20, a significant outreach initiative provided services to 9,411 students across 51 Electoral Zones.
  • This effort was part of the “Cidadania Plena – Todo Voto Importa” program, designed to streamline access to electoral services.
  • Services included issuing, regularizing, and updating voter IDs, alongside collecting biometric data.

The initiative aimed to facilitate early registration for young voters and minimize congestion during the final registration period.

Promoting Democratic Participation

Additionally, March saw the launch of the first “Voto Jovem” video competition. This initiative encourages social participation among youths through creative content aimed at promoting citizenship and democracy. It is a collaboration among TRE-PR, the Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB-PR), and the Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR).

The competition, which offers a total prize of R$16,000 for the top three entries, will announce its winners on March 10. Participants produced audiovisual content tailored for social media platforms to engage more young individuals in the electoral process.

How to Register for a Voter ID

Adolescents aged 15 and above can apply for voter registration as per Resolution TSE n° 23.659/2021, with a deadline set for May 6. The initial registration must be conducted in person to collect biometric data, and parental presence is not required.

Those interested can visit any Electoral Registry Office in Paraná, operational from Monday to Friday, between 12 PM and 6 PM.

When registering, applicants must provide the following documents:

  • Official photo ID
  • Tax ID (CPF), if available
  • Recent proof of residence (dated within the last year)
