CBS has announced a significant change in its late-night programming schedule. Beginning May 22, the network will fill the 11:35 p.m. time slot, previously held by “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” with “Comics Unleashed,” hosted by Byron Allen.
CBS’s Late-Night Programming Shift
The premiere of “Comics Unleashed” will follow the finale of Colbert’s show on May 21. This change will see two back-to-back episodes of the half-hour program air each night in the 11:35 p.m. slot. The 12:35 a.m. time slot will feature “Funny You Should Ask,” another show created by Allen and led by host Jon Kelley.

“Comics Unleashed” has been airing in the 12:35 a.m. slot since September, after CBS canceled the game show “After Midnight.” Allen expressed gratitude towards CBS for this opportunity, stating that laughter is always essential.
Future Programming and Agreements
CBS has entered into a time-buy agreement with Allen Media Group for the upcoming 2026-27 season. This means Allen will finance the airing of his shows on the CBS network.
Background on Colbert’s Departure
The programming update comes almost a year after CBS decided to conclude “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” The network described the decision as “agonizing,” citing financial challenges within the late-night television landscape. Some speculated that political factors influenced the cancellation, given Colbert’s critical stance towards former President Donald Trump.
Before the show’s cancellation, CBS parent company Paramount was in discussions regarding a sale to Skydance, which required approval from the Trump administration. Additionally, CBS recently settled a defamation lawsuit against Trump, which legal experts labeled minor.
Byron Allen has not hidden his ambition for Colbert’s time slot. He openly expressed interest during New York Ad Week last October, signaling his eagerness for the opportunity.
