Flyers Trade Ryan Ellis for Carl Grundstrom, Artem Guryev, and Draft Pick

The Philadelphia Flyers have completed a significant trade, acquiring forward Carl Grundstrom and defenseman Artem Guryev from the San Jose Sharks. This exchange involved sending defenseman Ryan Ellis and a conditional sixth-round draft pick for the 2026 NHL Draft back to San Jose.

Details of the Trade

The conditional sixth-round pick will be awarded to the Sharks based on a specific criterion. San Jose will receive the earlier of the two sixth-round picks owned by Philadelphia in 2026, which includes their own pick and the one from Columbus. Following this trade, the Flyers hold five picks in the upcoming 2026 NHL Draft.

About Carl Grundstrom

Carl Grundstrom, aged 27, has shown a steady performance in the NHL. During the 2024-25 season with the Sharks, he scored three goals and accumulated nine points in 56 games. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds, Grundstrom has participated in 292 NHL games across seven seasons, recording 43 goals and 33 assists for a total of 76 points.

Before making his mark in the NHL, Grundstrom played four seasons in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), where he won a league championship in 2016-17. He was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft as the 57th overall pick. Additionally, he has 30 goals and 72 points in 99 AHL games.

Introducing Artem Guryev

Artem Guryev, a 22-year-old defenseman, was selected by the Sharks in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Draft, at 135th overall. He signed his entry-level contract in April 2023. Guryev, who is 6-foot-4 and weighs 225 pounds, spent the past season with the Wichita Thunder in the ECHL, where he earned five points through two goals and three assists in 47 appearances.

During his AHL debut in the 2023-24 season, he registered four points, comprised of two goals and two assists, while also recording a high number of penalty minutes, totaling 81. Guryev is expected to join the Flyers’ AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, for further development.
