Cowboys’ S Hooker Placed on IR Due to Toe Injury

On October 4, 2025, the Dallas Cowboys announced a significant roster change. Safety Malik Hooker has been placed on injured reserve due to a toe injury. This decision comes after Hooker sustained the injury during last week’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

Malik Hooker’s Injury Details

Malik Hooker will be sidelined for at least four games. Initially, doctors feared that the injury could endanger his entire season. However, the diagnosis confirmed the need for Hooker to recover before returning to play.

Impact on the Team

As Hooker recovers, Juanyeh Thomas will take over his starting position. In addition, the Cowboys have promoted rookie Alijah Clark from their practice squad to bolster their defensive lineup.

Current Player Status

  • Malik Hooker: 22 tackles this season; placed on injured reserve
  • Juanyeh Thomas: Starting safety in Hooker’s absence
  • Alijah Clark: Promoted from the practice squad

Challenges Ahead for the Cowboys

This week, the Cowboys face the New York Jets without several key players. Injuries have left the team with significant gaps in their roster:

  • Left tackle Tyler Guyton (concussion)
  • Center Cooper Beebe (foot)
  • Right guard Tyler Booker (ankle)
  • Left guard Tyler Smith (knee) – questionable for Sunday

Moreover, with star receivers CeeDee Lamb and KaVontae Turpin also unavailable, the Cowboys have elevated Jalen Brooks and Jalen Cropper from the practice squad for additional support. The upcoming matchup against the Jets poses a challenge as the Cowboys attempt to navigate this injury-plagued period.
